Experiencing a new era in kitchen design
As a former beauty editor for a major fashion magazine here in Canada, I’m a veteran at product launch events. When you’re part of the fashion and beauty media you’re acutely aware that you are able to go to a lot of cool parties. And my favorite part of any event was always the interesting people I would meet. Yes, there were many, many celebs (Oh, hello there Cate Blanchett, thanks for the chat about SKII) But what I’m really talking about are the scientists, fragrance noses and chemists. After all, what I really loved about being a journalist was all the technology driven stories I was able to write. I know. You’re likely asking yourself, “How much technology is there really in a beauty product?” But I’m here to tell you that, believe it or not, there is a lot that makes that lovely foundation of yours evenly and lightly coat our skin, protect you from the sun’s rays and feed your cells with nutrients.
It’s why I enjoyed the event debuting the latest high-tech offerings of the new Kitchen Aid appliances. Today, as a food blogger, I find myself at less and less events with fizzy champagne cocktails but it’s still the science and technology of any event that attracts me. After being able to catch up with all my press friends and grazing on a brunch buffet (gotta have food at a food event), I knew it was time to dive in and learn about this new KitchenAid line. I’d heard the company’s latest culinary appliances featured a slew of the latest technologies to help a home cook’s kitchen hum like it’s a high performance professional space. As a result, the first thing I did was find the product expert for the KitchenAid Multi-Door Freestanding Refrigerator with Platinum Interior Design. Food blogging means your kitchen is your office. So my office equipment is important and right after my oven, my refrigerator is Queen. The five door configuration of the KitchenAid black stainless fridge (with fingerprint resistant finish) inspired the compulsively organized side of me to daydream of all the ways I’d set-up this new offering if it was nestled in my kitchen. Sure I liked the feature of the Perserva Food Care System since it extends the life of your food but it was the dedicated compartment for Herb Storage that had me at “angled floor keeps the stems wet.” Every good cook knows that fresh herbs are the secret to a delicious dish but I’m never diligent about storing herbs upright, with water in the refrigerator. So this feature had me dreaming of herbs (and money) saved. If you want to hear more of my thoughts on the feature just click here.
As a home chef who equally enjoys cooking and baking, I was also very delighted to meet the KitchenAid 30-inch 5 Burner Front Control Gas Convection Range with Baking Drawer. Featuring the company’s Even-Heat True Convection which allows you to maintain the perfect temperature throughout the cooking process, this new KitchenAid range also features a baking drawer that heats up to 450 degrees, giving you the freedom to bake, slow cook or just keep an item warm in a completely separate compartment. Can you say dessert and dinner at the same time?
When I was ready to leave the event, I gathered a few editor friends and started my goodbyes. As I thanked the last of my hosts, I was filled with a familiar feeling–It was the giddy satisfaction I used to get when I left a debut and knew I had an exciting story to share. And having that feeling once again felt wonderful.
