Blended Grapefruit Limeade

I was issued a KitchenAid challenge involving ice crushing and pureeing. That’s right, we’re talking blenders and smoothies. Or, in my case limeades! When you think smoothie, I’m sure the majority of you think strawberries, bananas and milk. Well, my smoothie is a lighter, tangier more refreshing spin on a smoothie that is perfect for summer.
Weather in my neck of the woods is warming up nicely and on hot days, yummy cold drinks are mandatory. Typically, I will usually make lemonade and add ice cubes to it to make it cold but this time I thought I’d switch things up and blend grapefruit and lime juice together with some ice and simple syrup to create a whole new summer loving beverage. It’s basically just like a sweet and tangy slushy that is super easy to make. And, using the KitchenAid® 5-Speed Blender means no big ice chunks left over at the bottom of your glass. I have a serious pet peeve when I use a blender and can never blend those last few chunks. It just drives me crazy! But, lucky for me, this blender works perfectly.
Here’s how you make this Blended Grapefruit Limeade:
Start by juicing a whole lot of grapefruits and limes! You’re going to want 1 cup of ruby red grapefruit juice and 1/2 cup lime juice.
Pour those into the bottom of your blender.
Then add in 1/4 to 1/2 cup simple syrup, depending on how sweet you want your drink to be.
Last ingredient to add: a bunch of ice.
Now, we’re ready to go!
Using the liquify function, blend your limeade until it’s the consistency you want {think slushy}. You’ll also want to taste it too. If it’s too tart, add a little more simple syrup. If it’s too sweet, add in a splash of water or lime juice.
Pour your blended limeade into some sugar-rimed glasses and drink away!
Crack out your KitchenAid® Blender and give this recipe a try. Not only is it easy to throw together, but your 5-Speed Blender will create this fabulous limeade in a snap. If you’re looking for a family-friendly, super simple drink, KitchenAid and I have got you covered!
Blended Grapefruit Limeade
2 to 3 servings
INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup water
1 cup freshly squeezed red grapefruit juice
1/2 cup fresh lime juice
3-4 cups ice
Extra sugar for glass rims
DIRECTIONS
Bring granulated sugar and water to a boil. Cook 30 seconds to 1 minute or until sugar crystals are dissolved. Pour into a small bowl and refrigerate until cold.
Pour half of the chilled simply syrup, grapefruit juice, lime juice and ice into the bottom of the KitchenAid® 5-Speed Blender. Using the ‘liquify’ function, blend limeade until the consistency of a slushy; about 20 seconds. Taste. Add more simple syrup and/or ice to adjust to your liking. Blend again.
Rub edges of serving glasses with lime wedges and dip in granulated sugar. Pour blended limeade into glasses and serve immediately.
